Ontwikkelaar Funcom, bekend van The Secret World en Age of Conan, moet flink bezuinigen. Naar verluidt gaan deze bezuinigingen bij de Noorse studio gepaard met een groot aantal ontslagen.
De ontwikkelaar laat door middel van een verklaring het volgende weten:
As we announced in the stock notice that went out on August 10th, Funcom is in the process of reducing operational costs and this process includes temporary layoffs as well as other initiatives. As we are currently in the middle of this process we can not provide any further comment at the present time. Rest assured however that we have long-term plans for the company and that we remain fully committed to all of our games.Om hoeveel ontslagen het precies gaat is onbekend, maar volgens de geruchten gaat het om 50 tot 60 procent van het personeel.
Helaas is Secret World gewoon weer de zoveelste MMO. Guild Wars 2 is om de hoek en veel MMO’s schakelen over naar de Free-to-Play model.
The Secret World is vrijwel anders dan de “zoveelste” MMO’s. De engiste MMO wat hierbij in de buurt komt is Eve online. Omdat je niet met levels werkt maar met skills! Dit soort gameplay gebruiken maar weinig MMO’s en dat maakt The Secret World ook erg aantrekkelijk om te spelen. Minpunt van The secret world is tot het niet geheel bug vrij is!
