De Zweedse ontwikkelaar DICE liet weten absoluut geen ‘Battlefield-fabriek’ te willen worden. De laatste game van DICE zonder de titel Battlefield, is het in 2008 uitgebrachte Mirror’s Edge. Ook heeft de ontwikkelaar Battlefield 4 al aangekondigd, is tevens bezig met Battlefield 3 DLC, support voor Battlefield 3 en de ontwikkeling van hun Frostbite engine.
EA Games adjunct-directeur Patrick Soderlund wist ons wel te vertellen dat men ook zeker bezig is met andere projecten. OXM vroeg hem of het moeilijk was games als Mirror’s Edge te rechtvaardigen, terwijl Battlefield games als warme broodjes over de toonbank gaan. Hij antwoordde met:
“Well it depends, right? Maybe it is and maybe it isn’t. It’s also important for us – the DICE guys are roughly 300 people in the Stockholm studio; not all of them are working on Battlefield things, and that’s intentional, because we don’t want to become a Battlefield factory.Mirror’s Edge fans hopen al lang op een sequel voor de game, misschien zelfs op next-gen consoles.The minute we start saying ‘you’re going to make a Battlefield game for the rest of your life’, they’re going to go some place else. So for them to make great Battlefield games there need to be other things for them to do as well. That’s why we have people who move around quite a bit. And then obviously we have a boatload of people that just want to make Battlefield because they love it.
Same thing with the team in San Francisco that are making Dead Space. It’s a stunning team and they’re passionate about what they do, and they love making Dead Space. Then the answer’s ‘well, then make Dead Space’. Then we have to figure out how to sell it and make it successful.”
We zouden niet willen dat het net zo als cod word 🙂
Ik vind ze al beetje een fabriek om het jaar komt er een nieuwe battlefield uit.
BAttlefield Bad company 2008, Bad company 2 4 maart 2010 en battlefield 3 ( al veel langer in ontwikkeling) 25 oktober 2011 dus alleen de laatste 2 jaar zijn er 2 🙂

Het grote verschil is dat EA wel een goede game uitbrengt, nieuwe engine etc. Een hele boel content. Dus een fabriek is het zeker niet die lekker games uit zitten te melken, dat is het grote verschil.
Ik hoop maar dat het ook niet zo wordt. Battlefield 4 mag van mij part ook over 2 of 3 jaar uitkomen, ze moeten niet elke jaar een Battlefield gaan maken 😛
