Grand Theft Auto-producent verlaat Rockstar na 15 jaar

De producent van alle Grand Theft Auto-games sinds Grand Theft Auto 3 vertrekt bij Rockstar. Leslie Benzies ging 17 maanden geleden al met een sabbatical, maar heeft besloten om niet meer terug te keren naar het bedrijf. Toekomstige Grand Theft Auto-games zullen het dus zonder hem moeten doen. Rockstar vertelt:

We can confirm that Leslie Benzies went on sabbatical on September 1, 2014 and has decided not to return to work for the company. We are very grateful for Leslie’s contributions to Rockstar over the last 15 years as we worked together to make some amazing games.

Leslie helped us build an incredible team that will continue to create great experiences for our fans. Leslie will always be a friend to the company and of course we are going to miss him but we wish him the absolute best for the future.

Benzies begon bij Rockstar, toen nog bekend onder de naam DMA Design, als teamleider voor Space Station Silicon Valley. Toen Grand Theft Auto 3 werd ontwikkeld, nam hij de rol van producent op zich. Het is onduidelijk hoeveel invloed Benzies op de games heeft gehad.

Rockstar heeft laten weten dat Aaron Garbut en Rob Nelson het roer tijdelijk overnemen. Wie Leslies vervanger wordt en wat voor stempel die op de franchise zal drukken, is nog een raadsel.
